IRON GIANT
PROJECT

This was one of the major projects assigned during a Computer Applications course, we were tasked with choosing any robot from pop culture and designing it from scratch in SolidWorks. Once complete, we needed to render our model in Keyshot and drop it into a scene. Initially I had my Iron Giant rendered in photo-realistic iron, but thought it would be more fun to make him look exactly as he did in the movie.

 

 I took frames from the movie and dropped my model into them. It was a bit of a challenge to match the lighting and colours of the movie, getting the cartoon texture to match the moonlight took some trial and error.

 

I had a difficult time with the shadow on this one, as it needed to be similar to the man reading the newspaper beside him. Orienting the sun within the render took a lot of adjusting.
